2015-07-26 A rice renaissance for Hong Kong’s villages? （Al Jazeera)
New pilot programmes could eventually breathe live back into the rice terraces of Hong Kong’s rural population.
As a cosmopolitan economic centre, Hong Kong is not usually associated with rice fields or agriculture.
Yet its more remote, rural areas are home to many traditional farming villages, some of which have been abandoned or long neglected.
The rice terraces of these villages may soon be experiencing a renaissance through pilot programmes that bring volunteers to farm.
Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride reports from Hong Kong.
